Exfoliating Coffee Face Mask!

coffee face mask

A few months ago I experimented with a coffee ground face mask and… I LOVED IT! The mask was invigorating, exfoliating, and smelled delicious! (If you love the smell of coffee, that is!). Since our featured ingredient for this month is coffee, what’s better than sharing this amazing Exfoliating Coffee Face Mask?

Some of the incredible benefits of topical application of caffeinated coffee to skin:

  • UV Protection from sun rays that may cause skin cancer
  • Full of antioxidants that fight the free radicals in skin cells
  • Works as a vasoconstrictor (constricts blood cells) which firms and tightens complexion
  • Diminish dark under eye circlesreduces blood buildup under eyes
  • Reduces redness/inflammation of skin
  • Exfoliate dead skin cells
  • Anti-aging properties
  • Tightens fines lines (may reduce appearance of cellulite) by moving fluid out of cells
  • Anti-carcinogenic benefits

To make the Exfoliating Coffee Face Mask you’ll need:

  • Coffee
  • Milk
  • Raw Honey

Mix the coffee groundsmilk, and honey until a thick paste forms. I didn’t exactly measure the ingredients, but added enough of each until it reached the desired consistency. Apply the coffee paste to a freshly washed face and allow to sit for however long you desire (20 minutes or so should be enough time). I left mine on for about 2 hours (I am easily distracted, plus I forgot I had the mask on!). Then, simply rinse the mask off with cool waterand pat skin dry. The mask rinses off very easily and does not leave any brown discoloration, but you may smell a bit like coffee!

I loved the results I had with this mask. My skin instantly looked and felt refreshed and calm.  I did not experience any irritation whatsoever. I can’t wait to add this mask into my weekly routine!

Thanks for the comment Dmareeb! That sounds so amazing! I haven’t tried it as a body scrub but it sounds super relaxing (especially since you get to smell like coffee after) :). Lovely idea!

does it brighten the skin ???

      • Brown & Coconut says:

Great question! It certainly does brighten the skin by helping to exfoliate away dead skin cells which can contribute to a dull complexion. Hope this helps!!

Does it matter which type of coffee i use?

    • Brown & Coconut says:

Good question! It shouldn’t matter what type of coffee you use. However, it might be better to use black coffee rather a flavored instant pack (like Starbucks, etc.) You can use instant black, however! Black coffee tends be better because you know exactly what your putting on your face, rather than using an instant pack that has nonessential ingredients which your skin may have a reaction to. Hope this helps!!

    • Brown & Coconut says:

So happy to hear that, Andrea–we hope you enjoy it! The best part is smelling a little bit like delicious coffee (plus the incredible skin benefits)! Happy New Year!

  • Amy says:

Hi! Was wondering if you use used coffee grounds or not used? Thank you!!!

  • Jasmine says:

Should I use fresh coffee ground or used lol. I was very unsure

    • Brown & Coconut says:

Hi Jasmine – great question! Both Used and fresh coffee grounds work, just make sure whatever grounds you use are very finely ground to ensure you don’t tear the delicate skin on your face and cause any damage. Hope this helps!

  • Lindsey says:

What kind of milk do you use?

    • Brown & Coconut says:

We love coconut milk for its calming, moisturizing properties. If you’re not dairy sensitive, you may also like dairy milk. It contains lactic acid which will further exfoliate your skin.

Can I store leftovers in the fridge to use at a later date?
